Families facing the challenges of raising a special needs individual encounter many hurdles and often feel left to discover the solutions on their own. Thankfully, we estate-planning attorneys can help solve and even reduce the number of hurdles these families face. One of the more important considerations parents must consider is being certain to plan for the long-term financial, physical and emotional needs of their special needs child. This process really consists of 5 separate areas of consideration:
- Financial Needs Analysis
- Letter of Intent
- Selection of Guardians/Conservators
- Selection of Trustees
- Preservation of Government Benefits.
Using these strategies and with the assistance of an attorney, CPA and other financial advisors it is possible to develop a planning strategy that will remove most of the uncertainty parents of special needs children face. No single tool alone is enough to address all of the unique challenges facing families of special needs children. However, through proper planning these challenges can be overcome.
I am writing an article regarding how people should handle will's , life insurance policies should someone pass away at christmas time.
The premise is that if you have a visitor from out of town, and they pass away while visiting.
I need tips as to how to locate that person's life insurance policy, last will and testament and other executory documents.
Let me know if you have some ideas about that.
I blog about life insurance.
